Rearing of Live Fish for Bone Studies

In the frame of BiomedAqu Project, the GIA research group of the EcoAqua Institute of University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is offering a training course on the most recent technical advances on rearing of fish for bone studies. BiomedAqu Project is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MCSA-ITN) with the aim of creating an innovative expertise combining research in skeletal biology of aquaculture fish species with that in biomedical models and humans. The participants will also benefit from the modern aquaculture facilities of GIA‐EcoAqua Institute to undertake practical lessons.
Topics to be covered include:
• Breeders maintenance and feeding
• Reproduction management
• Good practice in hatchery
• Monitoring and sampling
• Bone development in fish larvae
• Bioethics
The course will comprise 12 lectures of 40-45 minutes followed by 15 minutes discussions and 3 practical lessons of 3 hours.
Target group
The course is directed to PhD students or professionals from the industry interested in fish rearing and bone development.
Practical information
• The course fee for BiomedAqu ESRs is 350€, for other PhD candidates €450 and for participants from the industry €685. The price includes tuition, course materials, coffee/tea, lunches, drinks and a closing dinner.
• Email ecoaquasec@ulpgc.es to enquire about accommodation for the participants. Three hotels have been booked at special rates - these special rates will only be available for bookings made before 31st January 2019.
